Engineering grads design Accident Location Detector
B Tech (mechanical) third year students of the town-based Vaagdevi College of Engineering have designed an ‘Accident Location Detector’, which enables the victims of road accidents receive medical assistance in time.
Hanamkonda: B Tech (mechanical) third year students of the town-based Vaagdevi College of Engineering have designed an ‘Accident Location Detector’, which enables the victims of road accidents receive medical assistance in time.
Normally whenever an accident takes place, passersby had to inform the police or the relatives of the victims and it might take longer time for the information to reach them. The devise developed by the students would help to send information instantly to the concerned persons in case of a road accident.
The devise has been designed and developed by a team comprising Md Rahmath Ali, J Revanth, Mahesh, Ram Das and B Raju. Explaining the functioning of the devise, Ali said immediately after an accident a mercury switch in the contraption gets activated and sends distress signals.
A GPS sensor fitted in the apparatus identifies the location of the accident and sends information to the programming board. A Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) module would later passes on the information to the numbers fed into the system.
The mobile phone numbers of the relatives, emergency ambulance number 108, police emergency number 100 could be fed into the devise. Those, who receive alert message from the devise, could reach the spot without anyone’s intervention.
The equipment could be fitted to any vehicle and incurs an expenditure of Rs 10,000. An application seeking patent for the devise has been made. An 8051 microcontroller development board, GPS sensor, GSM module and mercury switch were the main components in the devise, Ali informed. The project was done under the guidance of mechanical department faculty K Vijaypal Reddy.
