Twin Republic Day celebrations in Warangal city
The Warangal city, the headquarters for both Warangal Urban and Warangal Rural districts, has on Thursday achieved a unique distinction on the occasion of 68th Republic Day.
Hanamkonda: The Warangal city, the headquarters for both Warangal Urban and Warangal Rural districts, has on Thursday achieved a unique distinction on the occasion of 68th Republic Day.
For the first time, the city witnessed two separate celebrations of the event at two different places by two district collectors Prashanth Jeevan Patil of Warangal Rural and Amrapali Kata of Warangal Urban, making the city teeming with patriotic fervour.
Warangal Urban Collector Amrapali has hoisted the national flag at Police Parade Grounds while Jeevan Patil hoisted the tri-colour at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JNS) both situated in Hanamkonda at a short-distance.
It might be noted there has been a similar practice in Union Territory of Chandigarh, which serves as the capital city of Haryana and Punjab states. The national festivals of Independence Day and Republic Day of both the states take place in Chandigarh city and Warangal has become part of such tradition.
In Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, which was divided into Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru Urban in 1986, the main celebration of such events take place at Manekshaw Parade Grounds.
However, the district administrations of Bengaluru Rural and Urban districts organise separate celebrations marking the events.
It might be recalled that prior to division of Warangal into five districts, Independence Day and Republic Day in undivided Warangal district were used to be celebrated at Police Parade Grounds.
Grand arrangements have been made by the district administrations to celebrate the maiden event after the reorganisation of the districts. Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu who attended flag hoisting at Police Parade Grounds later joined the celebrations at JNS Grounds.
