Warangal: Marking Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s 64th birth day on Friday, SC/ST Commission former member Rajarapu Prathap has embarked on a notable task of developing mortuary at MGM Hospital in Warangal.

He laid foundation for works worth Rs 60 lakhs on the day. As part of the initiative, it was aimed to construct toilets, a waiting hall for visitors and a room for workers at the mortuary, besides improving sanitation, drainage and ensuring drinking water supply.

Speaking to presspersons on the occasion, Prathap asserted that from now on he would concentrate in fulfilling basic needs at MGMH mortuary. The programme has been taken up under the aegis of Jeeva Jyothi Welfare Society and Fr Colombo Trust, for which Prathap is the founder-president.

On behalf of the trust and the society, Rs one lakh was donated to launch the works. The town-based Lodi Society has also been extending its support to the cause.

Air conditioning equipment at the mortuary was defunct and new equipment would be provided with an expenditure of Rs 40 lakhs, he informed.

In addition to developing infrastructure at the mortuary, the trust and society have also decided to take the responsibility of performing last rites of abandoned and unidentified bodies, Prathap revealed.

The State government and local leaders would be approached to raise the funds required for the purpose. ‘A proposal to develop the MGMH mortuary was put before the government and consent was granted to go ahead,’ he added.

MGMH Superintendent Dr D Ramesh, Kakatiya Medical College Principal Dr H Sandhya Rani and forensic department head Dr B Raju who attended the programme appreciated the efforts being made by Prathap in developing the mortuary.

The workers at the mortuary Ratnam, Yadagiri and Bikshapathi were felicitated and presented new clothes by Prathap in honour of their valuable services. The society secretary general J Venu and others were present.
