Karimnagar: The recent announcement made by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao that 30 per cent of police constables jobs would be allotted to women proves that the government was giving priority to women, opined Zilla Parishad Chairperson Tula Uma.

She took part in the International Women’s Day celebrations, organised on a grand note by the district administration under the leadership of MLA Gangula Kamalakar, at the auditorium of the Collectorate in Karimnagar on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering, the ZP Chairperson thanked the state government for declaring holiday for the women employees on the day.

“The government is not only giving priority to women, but also naming the schemes after women and implementing them successfully with their participation,” she said, adding that government was taking all measures to give protection to women, and deployment of She Teams was one such move.

Speaking on the occasion, Choppadandi MLA Bodiga Shoba asked the women to make use of available opportunities and grow big in life.

“Women must stage a united fight to get their rights,” she said, adding that emphasis must be laid on the education of girl children.

Later, women employees who excelled in their duties and who won prizes in sports and games competitions were feted.

MLC Naradasu Lakshman Rao, Mayor Ravinder Singh, District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed, District Welfare Officer Girija Rani, Corporators G Ramesh, B Venu and others were present.
