Warangal: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders here have demanded the state government to organise official celebrations marking ‘Telangana Liberation Day’ which falls on September 17. The BJP State vice-president G Premender Reddy, district president A Ashok Reddy and former MLA Vannala Sriramulu have demanded the government to initiate measures in this direction immediately as the day holds great significance for the people in the region.
The celebrations should be held on the lines of Indian Independence Day as the region got real independence from tyrannical rule of erstwhile Nizams on that day. Ministers from the district Ponnla Lakshmaiah, Baswaraju Saraiah and P Balaram Naik should take the initiative in this regard.
‘If the government fails to conduct the celebrations, the Ministers should come forward and organise the celebrations at Police Parade Grounds. If not the BJP leaders would conduct the celebrations, said Premender Reddy. It might be noted that the BJP leaders demanded the State and Central governments several times in the past to officially celebrate the liberation of Hyderabad State. But no decision was taken so far by the successive governments.
Premender Reddy informed that Liberation Day was being celebrated on a grand scale by Maharashtra and Karnataka governments. “Why the government in Andhra Pradesh is not able to take a similar decision” he questioned
Further, the BJP leaders have strongly condemned the news reports that said the BJP was going to have an alliance with Telugu Desam Party. ‘The news reports were totally wrong. The party is not interested any kind of alliance with TDP in the state’.
Referring to the arguments that Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s words of admiration about the TDP founder late NT Rama Rao during a recent meeting Hyderabad were the indication of BJP’s inclination towards TDP, he said: ‘It is absurd’.
The party leaders also demanded the UPA government to put up the ‘Cabinet note’ on Telangana and expedite the process of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
