Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday said that the Apex committee, comprising Chief Ministers and Ministers of Telangana and Maharashtra, would soon hold a final meeting on the construction of barrages on the river Godavari and its tributaries.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday said that the Apex committee, comprising Chief Ministers and Ministers of Telangana and Maharashtra, would soon hold a final meeting on the construction of barrages on the river Godavari and its tributaries.
He expressed happiness over arriving at an agreement on the height of Tummidihatti and Medigadda barrages being taken up by Telangana State at the official level meeting conducted in the city on Saturday.
The height of Tummidihatti has been fixed at 148 FRL (Full Reservior Level) and Medigadda would be constructed at 100 FRL. Telangana State Special Chief Secretary S K Joshi and his Maharashtra counterpart and other officials from both the states participated in the meeting.
The two states also agreed to utilise waters as per the tribunal award. “It is our government that broke the deadlock over the decades' old water dispute between the two states,” KCR said at a meeting attended by farmers from Karimangar district at the camp office here.
To enter a final agreement on the projects, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his Irrigation Minister would arrive in the city, he said. Stating that works on Annaram, Sundilla and Medigadda taken up as part of Kaleswaram project on River Godavari would begin this summer, the Chief Minister said that he was delighted with the achievement of his government in resolving a water dispute with the neighbouring State within a short period.
“Previous governments complicated the project issue with Maharashtra, whereas his government resolved it in an amicable manner.” Reiterating that his government was committed to creating fresh ayacut in one crore acre, he said Tummidihatti and Kaleswaram would be the only lifeline projects for Telangana State as neighbouring Maharashtra and Karnataka had constructed more than 400 illegal dams denying the State its own share of water from the river Krishna and river Godavari in united AP.
On the occasion, KCR felicitated a group of farmers from Julapally in Karimangar district, who conducted a padayatra for achieving a breakthrough in the construction of projects on the river Godavari with the support of Maharashtra.
