Get ready for the entry of one more Chinese smartphone brands in the market. As per the FT report, Bytedance, the parent company of TikTok is said to be working on a smartphone. The FT report cites a source who says that the founder of Bytedance, Zhang Yiming, "has long dreamt of a phone with Bytedance apps pre-installed" on smartphones. Many Chinese companies have used this "model" of smartphone pre-installations for their apps.

TikTok is not the only app with which Bytedance participates in. There's Lark, which is a collaboration tool; Felilao, an instant messenger; and there is a music streaming app too.

The decision in January had acquired patents and employees of the manufacturer of Smartisan phones, which is also a hint that the company could soon launch a smartphone.

Earlier this year a Bloomberg report had revealed that Bytedance had not met its revenue targets for the first time. The move to launch a smartphone will give other Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and others something to think about. So far, no official word of the company has been heard when exactly it is entering the smartphone business.

Meanwhile, it was reported as per the Sensor Tower that TikTok was the most popular application for Apple's iPhone and iPad. In the quarter that ended in March, TikTok was downloaded 33 million times. Although it was not the most popular app on the Google Play Store, it was still downloaded 88.2 million times.

The application has also had its fair share of problems. India had temporarily banned the application, as it was accused of promoting pornography and other illicit content. However, the ban was lifted later and the app is now again available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
