Hyderabad: The Forest College and Research Institute (FCRI), Telangana is all set its eyes to forge ties with the national and international institutions in a bid to make its mark on the map of forest research institutions in the country.

Speaking to The Hans India, FCRI, Dean, G Chandrasekhar Reddy said that the college has got A-plus recognition within four years of its inception. It shows the hard work put by all the stakeholders of the college.

In turn, with the A-plus recognition, now, the FCRI have an opportunity to forge collaborations with other top forest research institutions and colleges located in different parts of the country.

The FCRI already has collaboration with the CCMB. Besides, students have already gone for training at the university of British Columbia. Where they come across what is expected of them once they complete their course and the like

Currently, the FCRI has departments of silviculture and agro forestry, natural resource management and conservation, wildlife and habitat management, forest products and utilization, tree breeding and improvement and forest ecology and climate science. There are other areas of study, research and training being carried out at other institutions.

Firstly, our objective is to see which subject areas and programmes are beneficial and meet the needs of Telangana. That apart, some of our students wish to further pursue courses like M.Sc in wildlife, he added.

That apart, the FCRI also wish to make a mark of its own by establishing itself as one of the top forest research institutions in the country. For this, "We are also chalking out action plans to forge collaborations keeping in view the priorities and mandates of the State government. Wherever it is needed the FCRI will also join hands with the reputed universities and institutes from other countries," Reddy said.
