Gadwal: Giving strict warning to the spurious seed sellers in Gadwal, Superintendent of Police KP Laxmi Nayak has said that he would not hesitate to invoke Preventive Detention (PD) Act against those traders seen selling spurious seeds to the gullible farmers in the district.

"We have already formed taskforce teams to focus on traders and seed sellers who are violating the rules and regulations set by the government with regard to selling of seeds. The traders who try to sell seeds without getting themselves registered with the government with proper licences will be under the scanner. If found violating the rules, we will invoke PD Act against them and arrest them. The farmers should also keep a vigil on the fraudsters and inform the police and save others from being duped by the fake seed sellers," said the SP.

The SP also said that very soon they would be forming a Kalajata team, which would visit each and every village and create awareness about the fake seed sellers. The SP urged the people that if they come across any information of stocking of illegal seeds they should inform the police so that they can act swiftly and save the farmers from falling prey to the spurious seed sellers. "The farmers get attracted to low cost seed sellers and fall prey to their tactics. But later, the farmers are at the receiving end as they may not get good yield by sowing the fake seeds. Thus, they will not have good yields and will be under huge debt and this leads to depression and later farmers may take extreme step of suicide. To avoid this, we are sensitising the farmers and also at the same time keeping a vigil on the market traders to ensure that spurious seeds are not sold in the district," informed the SP.
