Hyderabad: Following reports that the available water resources will last only a few days to meet the water requirements of Greater Hyderabad, TRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday allayed apprehensions saying that the Kaleshwaram project which was recently commissioned is the lifeline for drinking needs of the capital city and there was no need to entertain any such fear.

KTR took to twitter to clarify the doubts raised on the scarcity of drinking water by Hyderabad people, including film personalities. He said the TRS government was taking all steps to ensure that the people of the capital city get water for drinking purpose regularly from Kaleshwaram.

With the inflows coming in from the Godavari river and Pranahitha, water has been lifted from Meddiagadda barrage and pumped into Annaram from where the water will be utilised from irrigation and drinking water needs.

"Medigadda barrage received 7.50 tmc ft water and Annaram barrage 5 tmc ft water by Tuesday evening," KTR said lifting of water from Kannepally pump house is on and the officials succeeded in procuring 11 tmc ft of water from Pranahitha flood water in 10 days using five motors despite deficit rainfall.

"Though Godavari river has low level of waters, we could impound 11 tmc ft, which can irrigate one lakh acres," he said. By starting all the motors, all the parched lands could be brought under irrigation, KTR said.

KTR reiterated that Kaleshwaram project will supply abundant water to Hyderabad city. Though Chennai and other metro cities in the country were facing water problems, Hyderabad has no such chance, he felt. "We are able to see that Hyderabad does not face Chennai-like water problems."

The TRS leader said that the chief minister's unstinted efforts in utilising Godavari water at optimum level through Kaleshwaram will relieve Telangana from water scarcity in the coming days.
