Hyderabad: The Indian Medical Association national unit has stated that fight against NMC was not over although both houses of Parliament passed it, with Rajya Sabha passing it on Thursday.

IMA Telangana unit shared with the press note issued by IMA national president Dr Ravi Wankhedkhar on this issue.

" All is not over..we will continue our efforts and struggle. we will try to appeal to the Presidential, besides exploring legal options.

Even Parliamentary debate on NMC revolved around the objectionable points raised by IMA only," he said.

The NMC Bill 2019 was passed by Rajya Sabha on Thursday with few amendments in spite of majority opposition parties speaking against it, he said, adding that unfortunately, political expediency has taken over rationality and justice.

The irreparable ill-effects on medical education, profession and healthcare delivery system will be felt for years to come, he warned.

Meanwhile, Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) president Dr Mahesh Kumar termed it as a black day in the history of the medical profession.

NIMS RDA president Dr G Srinivas pointed out that medical fraternity in all states was on protest path for the last ten days or so highlighting their concerns, but unfortunately the Centre ignored the stakeholders and passed the bill unilaterally, he said.
