Karimnagar: A police inspector risked his life to save two labourers stuck in a deep well in Karimnagar district on Tuesday.

Circle Inspector Koripelly Srujan Reddy descended into the over 60-foot-deep well and saved the two labourers from asphyxiation.

Olgala Mallaiah and Marapalli Ravinder of Madipalli village went to dig a well in the same village. The villagers gathered there were alerted when no sound was coming from inside the well after some time but none had a clue how to save the labourers. They immediately informed the police and 108. Jammikunta CI K Srujan Reddy along with his staff rushed to the spot.

As the labourers are suffering from asphyxiation, they sent oxygen into the well through pipes. None came forward to get into the well. The CI and others lowered the ropes to help the workers come out but it was of no use as they were not able to get a good grip.

The inspector, who was in his uniform then, himself entered the well with a rope. He held the labourers M Ramu and Mallaiah and helped them to grab the rope and climb up. Meanwhile, firefighting personnel reached the scene and helped all the three come out.

The 108 staff gave primary treatment to the labourers and shifted them to government hospital for further treatment. Now the due were out of danger, doctors said.

The 108 staff treated the wounds which the CI received during his act.

Senior officials including Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy appreciated the inspector for his brave act.
