Panchayat workers protest seeking enhanced salaries in Bhongir

Bhongir: Demanding immediate implementation of promises made by the ruling TRS government, the gram panchayat officials under the aegis of Gram Panchayat Employees and Workers Union staged a protest in front of the district collectorate in Bhongir on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, CITU district president Komatireddy Chandra Reddy and secretary Dasari Pandu stated that so far no Government Order was issued over the announcement of hike of salaries of gram panchayat workers to Rs 8,500. They demanded the government to release the GO immediately notifying the enhanced salaries.

They also sought the government to promote Karobars and bill collectors of gram panchayats as Junior Gram Panchayat Secretaries, besides clearing the pending wages of panchayat workers. They urged the government to regularise the services of Karobars appointed under compassionate grounds.

The protestors warned of intensifying their agitation if government failed to address their demands.

Meanwhile, a scuffle broke out between the protestors and the police when the protestors tried to enter the Collectorate premises. However, after sometime, a delegation was allowed to meet the Joint Collector Ramesh and submit a memorandum.

CPM leader M Krishna and gram panchayat workers took part in the protest.
