Women of Deccan Development Society Sangham celebrated International Women’s Day at Pastapur, on Sunday with the theme “I am Generation Equality- Realising Women’s Rights.”

Zaheerabad: Women of Deccan Development Society Sangham celebrated International Women's Day at Pastapur, on Sunday with the theme "I am Generation Equality- Realising Women's Rights."

Dr. Vineetha Kumari, MANAGE Deputy Director, and Damayanthi Reddy, Correspondent of Sanghamithra School, Zaheerabad, who were the chief guests, released a manifesto on 'Millet Rights are Women's Rights,' considering the prominent role played by women in millet farming.

Co-Director of DDS, Jayashree, addressing the Sangham women, said, "Irrespective of their 30 years hurdles in biodiverse agriculture, they have saved their rights, food and health, with which the present generation are able to find solutions to the global crisis, climate change. Stressing on 'Millet Rights are Women's Rights,' she mentioned women play a key role in turning their families into nutrition houses by practising millet farming."

Gangwar Anjamma, mandal president and seed keeper, said, "We are born on a land which has a sacred relation with the seeds. So there is a need that the next generation realise and practise the traditional millet farming and save the seeds."

Sony, Potpalli, a first-year graduate, shared about her single mother, who is non- literate, Dalit women, raised her family in a positive way and continued to be an organic biodiverse farmer. In a result, she has been very inspiration to many in the community, as she was awarded Nari Shakthi Award and other international awards.

Mahalakshmi, from Yeluru, Chandramma, from Bidakanne, Sangamma, from Tekur, Mayuri, from Pastapur, Damayanthi Reddy, Correspondent of Sanghamithra School, Zaheerabad, Vinnetha Kumari, Deputy Director, MANAGE, also spoke.
