Jagadeeswari Trust to present first literary award tomorrow

Visakhapatnam: Visakha Rasagna Vedika organised a function to mark the inauguration of 'Jagadeeswari Charitable Trust' and the presentation of the Trust's maiden literary award scheduled on Sunday.

Sharing the details of the forthcoming programme at a conference held here on Friday, Vedika president Gandikota Raghurama Rao and founder trustee N Ramakrishna said that they instituted the charitable trust in the name of Jagadeeswari, wife of Prof Ramakrishna, who had passed away recently.

Noted writer and journalist Chintakindi Srinivasa Rao has been chosen for the first literary award of Jagadeeswari Charitable Trust. Prof Ramakrishna said the trust set up a corpus fund and the plan was to raise Rs 20 lakh as interest every year so that it could be used to provide financial assistance to meritorious and needy students and also the cancer patients.

Ramakrishna said that his wife was a veena exponent and wrote around 100 poems, some short stories and they would be released at the inaugural function. In her memory, two awards for literature and music would be presented. The cash awards would carry Rs 20,000 each in addition to a memento. The maiden literary programme will be held at Visakhapatnam Public Library on Sunday.
