Two huts were reduced to ashes in a fire accident at Karapa village here in the early hours of Monday.

Kakinada: Two huts were reduced to ashes in a fire accident at Karapa village here in the early hours of Monday.

According to the fire department officials, two huts at Ambedkar Nagar were gutted in the fire. According to them, a fire broke out due to a short circuit in an electric metre at Donam Srinu’s house.

The fire immediately engulfed the neighbouring hut of Kalavala Ravi. The families of Srinu and Ravi rushed out of the huts with their children to save their lives. The victims said Rs 1 lakh in cash and some gold ornaments were also burnt in the fire accident.

The Fire Officer, B Atchi Raju, with the help of Karapa Sub-Inspector Janaki Ram and the police staff extinguished the fire. The gas cylinders in those huts were also exploded but no one was injured in the incident. However, two other houses were partially damaged in the fire.

Karapa police are investigating the case. Karapa tahsildar Vijaya Sri is estimating the loss of property.
