Anakapalli: Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha said fire personnel perform their duties with great courage, often risking their lives while responding to disasters and emergencies.
After inaugurating the new fire station building at Sabbavaram here on Sunday, the Home Minister mentioned that the building was constructed with 15th Finance Commission funds at a cost of Rs 1.6 crore. The Minister recalled the services rendered by fire personnel during the Budameru floods, when they went door to door and played a key role in clearing and cleaning the affected areas.
Anitha said that the police and fire services are among the departments that continue to serve people during disasters without giving much importance to their own safety. She stated that the NDA government constructed several new fire stations and purchased a large number of fire vehicles.
The Home Minister assured that she would make every effort for the development of the Pendurthi constituency. She also called upon coalition candidates to demonstrate their might in the forthcoming local body elections. Recalling her political association with Pendurthi MLA Panchakarla Ramesh Babu, she said she was junior to him in politics.
Speaking on the occasion, Panchakarla Ramesh Babu appealed to the Home Minister to sanction funds for completing the Kapu community building at Sabbavaram.
During the programme, Anitha inspected various rooms of the newly-inaugurated fire station and launched a new fire engine. She also visited a stall arranged by the fire department and enquired with officials about the functioning of various firefighting equipment.
Later, Home Minister Anitha, MLA Panchakarla Ramesh Babu and chairman of AP Cooperative Oil Seeds Growers’ Federation Gandi Babji planted saplings at the fire station premises.
