The Andhra Pradesh government is set to file a petition in the Supreme Court tomorrow (Saturday) regarding BC reservations. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed that the petition be filed by tomorrow afternoon. It is well known that the AP High Court had struck down the government orders (GOs) providing 34% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections; consequently, the government has decided to challenge the High Court's verdict in the Supreme Court.

Legal experts suggest that if the petition is filed tomorrow, it is likely to come up for hearing next week. The Chief Minister has ordered the appointment of senior advocates to represent the Panchayat Raj and Municipal Administration departments in the Supreme Court.

He held discussions with legal experts in Delhi this morning (Friday). The coalition government has decided to stand by its commitment to provide 34% reservation for BCs.
