Kakinada: Kakinada district unit of the BJP has expressed deep concern over the decline in the pass percentage of Class 10 in the state. Lack of teachers in government schools is the main reason.

BJP district media panellist Duvvuri Subrahmanyam and senior leader P Subbarao said that they have written to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, and School Education Commissioner regarding the issue.

Subrahmanyam said that students are moving to private schools due to decreasing pass percentage. The education department itself said that 86,000 students went out of government schools and were enrolled in private schools in the last academic year.

He said that the government, which announced that it will achieve miracles through programmes like Nadu-Nedu and Manabadi has completely failed in achieving goals.

According to the Right to Education Act brought by the government in 2009, there should be a 30:1 student-to-teacher ratio in primary schools and 35:1 in high schools.

But, the state government has completely ignored this fact. They said 94.48%, 94.88%, 67.26%, and 72.26% pass percentages were recorded in class X in the years 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023 respectively.

He said it is possible to improve the pass percentage only when the government focuses on the recruitment of teachers. Duvvuri Subrahmanyam demanded the government to pay immediate attention to the recruitment of teachers and try to increase the pass percentage in the coming years.
