Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has ordered officials to be on high alert for approaching Cyclone Arnab.

Speaking at a review meeting held in his camp office in Undavalli on Tuesday, Naidu, spoke to district collectors in affected areas via tele-conference, asking them about expected rainfall levels and conditions. He said that it was important to be prepared.

The cyclone is moving at a speed of 23km/h towards the Yanam coast. It is currently 167km away from Yanam and centred near Kakinada. According to the latest advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department, the storm is currently moving over the west-central part of the Bay of Bengal and causing very severe weather along parts of the Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha borders.

The chief minister ordered officials to move residents out of low lying areas and ensure food and drinking water is available at relief camps. "We should be prepared with our plans to avoid any casualty and damage."

He also ordered officials to make sure power is restored as soon as possible if there are any disruptions. Fallen trees and hoardings should be removed. The National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force teams in the affected areas should be utilised fully.

District collectors should also constantly monitor conditions in their area using their district control room.
