Heavy rain delays VMC poll counting, results likely by 7 pm
VIJAYAWADA: Heavy rainfall caused by Cyclone Murasu has delayed the counting of votes in the municipal elections in NTR district, with the results of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) elections likely to be announced around 7 pm on Tuesday, said District Collector Dr G Lakshmisha.
The Collector said the authorities had initially planned to complete the counting of votes for the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) by 5 pm. However, heavy rainfall due to Cyclone Murasu had delayed the process, and the results were now expected to be announced around 7 pm, he said.
Dr Lakshmisha visited the counting centre at the Zilla Parishad High School for Girls in Kondapalli and inspected the arrangements and progress of vote counting for the Kondapalli Municipality elections. He reviewed the facilities and directed officials to ensure that the counting process was conducted smoothly, transparently and in accordance with the prescribed procedures.
Speaking to the media, he said the counting process in the municipal elections across the district was progressing smoothly despite the weather-related challenges. Officials were taking all necessary steps to complete the exercise without any inconvenience and maintain security at the counting centres.
Meanwhile, an atmosphere of anxiety and anticipation prevailed among candidates and political party leaders as counting progressed in Kondapalli. Candidates, their supporters and party leaders were keenly following the counting trends and eagerly awaiting the final results.
The heavy downpour and delay in the announcement of results further heightened the suspense among contestants and their supporters.
