ISRO reached another milestone in their quest for excellence. ISRO recently launched GSLV-F17 rocket with the latest EOS-05 satellite from the second launch pad of Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota early Friday morning at 2:55 AM. The EOS-05 satellite was launched for the observation of the earth.
The 51.7 meters tall and 420.5 tonnes GSLV-F17 rocket soared high in the sky at the stipulated time. After the launch of GSLV-F17, the EOS-05 satellite was placed in the desired Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (Sub-GTO). It will now begin its journey to continue observing the earth. It is a geosynchronous orbit imaging satellite.
EOS-05 satellite will continuously watch over the earth from a high-flying altitude of about 36,000 kilometers to look at the lands. It is expected that the satellite will watch over India's borders and detect any hostile activity. It has a span of looking over the entire South Asian region in one shot. The satellite will cover the complete Indian landmass every ten minutes. It will be the world's first-ever satellite to carry such a high-tech camera in a geo-orbit.
Remarkably, the camera lens of the satellite will have a pixel size higher by 567 times than what ISRO has currently. It will be an efficient tool to monitor climate change, natural calamities, agriculture, forest, water, and other ecological data. It will help provide real-time data about flood, cyclone, and drought. Also, it will be a great support to secure the country's security mechanism.
