Peaceful and devout Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations encouraged across Nandyal

Nandyal: Reinforcing commitment to environmental sustainability, the Nandyal district administration, in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), distributed 3,000 free clay Ganesha idols to the public on Sunday ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi.

District Collector G Rajakumari personally distributed the idols at the Revenue Clinic near the PGRS building at the Collectorate.

Highlighting the ecological hazards of Plaster of Paris (PoP) and chemical colors, she cautioned that they severely pollute water bodies during immersion.

Instead, she urged citizens to embrace eco-friendly traditions by worshiping clay idols and immersing them at home in flower pots.

She further suggested planting and nurturing a sapling in the same pot afterward to foster greenery.

Addressing festival safety, Rajakumari instructed Ganesh pandal organizers to strictly adhere to official guidelines, exercising extreme caution around electrical lines and avoiding dangerous practices like pushing wires with sticks.

APPCB officer Kishore Reddy noted that the annual distribution initiative builds vital environmental awareness.

Given this year’s low rainfall, he appealed to the public and festival committees to conserve water by opting for home-based idol immersion and cooperating in pollution prevention efforts.

District officials and local residents participated in the programme.
