Rosaiah left TG Rs 16K cr surplus at formation: CM Revanth

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has appreciated former state finance minister K Rosaiah (who belonged to the Arya Vysya community), saying he was instrumental in the formation of the Telangana State and left it with a surplus of Rs 16,000 crore on June 2, 2014. He credited the Congress party for giving Rosaiah the “opportunity and the respect” he deserved.

Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for the ‘Arya Vysya Atma Gourava Bhavanam’ on Sunday, the Chief Minister said that the government has appointed an Arya Vysya representative to a corporation chairman post (Kalva Sujatha). The key post of chairperson of Kodangal Municipality (his seat) was also given to the Arya Vysya community (NM Prashanth), the Chief Minister said, adding that the unity of the community is important to claim their due share in politics. "In fact, foresight and prudence are embedded in the DNA of the Arya Vysya community,” he observed.

Revanth recounted the roles played by leaders from the Arya Vysya community in the previous governments. Former chief ministers - Channa Reddy, Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, and YS Rajasekhar Reddy entrusted the responsibility of managing the state's finances to Arya Vysyas, he mentioned.

The Chief Minister recalled that when he used to speak aggressively in the Legislative Council, Rosaiah would call him and advise him to maintain restraint. Rosaiah also blessed him to pursue a great political career during his meeting with the popular leader in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh. The Chief Minister also said that Rosaiah was one of the great leaders who recognised his potential to grow as the future leader in Telangana politics.

Revanth Reddy said that the “People's government” accorded priority to the Arya Vysya community in respect of nominated posts.

Revanth Reedy CM praised Arya Vysyas as “gentle by nature and possessing a strong sense of self-respect”. Despite many of the community members facing poverty, they never wished to be labelled as "poor" and give value to their dignity above all. "The particular community lives with dignity in society, even amidst hardships and struggles," he observed.

Revanth Reddy recalled the yeoman service rendered by Mahatma Gandhi who stood as a truly global leader. Gandhi's main principle of non-violence played an important role in the fight for Independence by many countries. “'Mahatma Gandhi was a son of the Arya Vysya community who rose from India to become a global leader.

It is a matter of pride that Mahatma Gandhi, a leader of global stature, belonged to the Congress party". (Gandhi belonged to North-Western Gujarati Modh Bania community.) The Chief Minister recalled many prominent leaders from the Arya Vysya community in the Congress party. The state of Andhra Pradesh was formed thanks to the struggle of Potti Sriramulu. Like Gandhi, who sacrificed his life for the integrity of the nation, Potti Sriramulu sacrificed his life for the state of Andhra Pradesh, he said.

The Chief Minister declared that the government will provide assistance for the construction of the building.
