Krishna district collector DK Balaji has urged people to remain alert in view of the possible impact of Cyclone Murasu
Machilipatnam: Krishna district collector DK Balaji has urged people to remain alert in view of the possible impact of Cyclone Murasu on the district and advised them to stay indoors until the storm passes, except in cases of emergency.
Addressing the media at the Movva Mandal Parishad Development Office premises on Monday, the Collector said strong winds were likely to begin affecting the district.
He warned that venturing outdoors during the cyclone could expose people to serious risks from falling trees and electric poles.
He particularly cautioned residents against approaching fallen electric poles, snapped power lines and waterlogged areas where electrical wires might have fallen.
He said such incidents were among the major causes of accidents and loss of life during cyclones. Staying indoors until the weather conditions improved was the safest course of action, he stressed.
As power supply could be disrupted due to the cyclone, the collector advised people to keep essential commodities and emergency medicines sufficient for one or two days ready at home. Balaji said the district administration was fully prepared to deal with the impact of the cyclone. Special teams had been constituted in every mandal under the supervision of the Mandal Parishad Development Officers (MPDOs) and Tahsildars.
