‘Police, SEC acted as ruling coalition’s agents’

Rajamahendravaram: Former MP and YSRCP spokesperson Margani Bharat Ram accused the police and State Election Commission (SEC) of favouring the TDP-led coalition in the local body elections, alleging that they failed to ensure free and fair polling.
Addressing the media at the YSRCP district office in Rajamahendravaram on Monday, he alleged that several officials behaved like ruling party workers and threatened opposition candidates and their supporters. He said the municipal and corporation elections witnessed intimidation and electoral irregularities.
Condemning the alleged attacks during polling, Bharat said TDP supporters resorted to violence using stones and sticks, targeting women and journalists. Media personnel were also allegedly prevented from performing their duties, he said.
Questioning Minister Nara Lokesh, Bharat said that while the minister circulated social media posts about alleged irregularities in Pulivendula, he remained silent on the violence and attacks allegedly involving TDP leaders and supporters during the municipal elections. He also questioned how ward reservation details of Rajamahendravaram municipal corporation elections had circulated in WhatsApp groups even before their official announcement. He demanded an explanation from the authorities and sought accountability for the alleged irregularities.
