Severe depression nears Vizag, coastal Andhra to witness heavy rains

Severe Depression in the northwest Bay of Bengal has been moving at 7 km/h for the past six hours. It has been found that the distance between the storm and Gopalpur is 150 km, between the storm and Kalingapatnam is 100 km, between the storm and Puri in Odisha is 220 km, and between the storm and Visakhapatnam is 180 km.

According to the forecast of the India Meteorological Department, the depression will move through the coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur today evening causing heavy rains.

People have been asked to remain alert since there are going to be heavy rains, strong winds, and lightning in the next two days. One should not stand under the trees or hoardings, and fishing has been strictly banned, as stated by Prakhar Jain, MD of the Disaster Management Authority.

Widespread rainfall is predicted in the Coastal Andhra region, besides isolated extremely heavy rainfall in some parts. Srikakulam, Manyam, Alluri, Polavaram districts, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and East Godavari district will witness heavy rainfall.

Heavy rainfall might also occur in West Godavari and Eluru districts, while moderate rainfall can occur in the districts
