Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said the Srisailam Project’s inclusion in the World Book of Records was a source of pride for the Telugu states.

Describing Srisailam as a multipurpose project, he said it generates electricity and supplies drinking water to the public and irrigation water to farmers. The reservoir has met the needs of lakhs of people for decades, he said, adding that the dam’s ability to withstand massive floods had now received international recognition.

The minister said the Pattiseema Project, built on Chief Minister Chandrababu’s foresight, had helped Rayalaseema make greater use of Srisailam’s water. By transferring 500 TMC of water to the Krishna Delta through Pattiseema, he said, the project created flexibility to use Srisailam’s water for Rayalaseema.

He said Srisailam remained vital to Rayalaseema’s irrigation and drinking-water needs while also supporting Krishna Delta farmers. The recognition, he added, reflected the project’s engineering, power generation and wider benefits.
