Hyderabad: With Artificial Intelligence rapidly transforming workplaces and business processes, IIT Hyderabad has launched the Applied AI Professional Certification Program – September Cohort 2026, aimed at helping working professionals move beyond using AI tools to developing, deploying and managing reliable AI applications.
The four-week professional certification programme, which begins on September 19, 2026, is designed to provide participants with practical knowledge of how AI applications are engineered for real-world use. The programme will focus on the design, development, evaluation and operation of AI agent systems, combining classroom instruction with guided hands-on learning and continuous project development.
The programme will be conducted in a hybrid format from September 19 to October 17, 2026. Instructor-led sessions will take place on Saturdays, with participants having the option to attend in person at IIT Hyderabad or join online. During the intervening weeks, participants will undertake guided online learning, hands-on assignments, project development and mentoring, allowing them to apply concepts introduced during the weekly sessions.
The programme follows a continuous “learn, apply and build” model, rather than treating theoretical instruction and practical work as separate components. Participants will progressively develop a single production-style AI agent application throughout the four-week programme. The course will culminate in project demonstrations and presentations, followed by feedback from faculty and experts.
Key areas covered during the programme will include tool use, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), memory, orchestration, multi-agent systems, evaluation, observability, guardrails and deployment. Through these topics, participants will gain an understanding of the complete lifecycle involved in developing AI agent systems that are dependable and suitable for practical applications.
The lectures will be delivered by Dr. Praveen Tammana, Dr. Ashish Mishra and Dr. Anupam Sanghi, faculty members in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Hyderabad, along with N. V. S. S. Koundinya, AI Solution Architect.
According to IIT Hyderabad, the programme is intended to provide professionals with direct exposure to faculty-led learning while giving them opportunities to translate concepts into practical AI solutions through sustained project work. The hands-on format is expected to help participants develop a deeper understanding of the engineering considerations involved in building and operating AI agent systems.
Participants who successfully complete the prescribed assignments, assessments and other programme requirements will be awarded an IIT Hyderabad Professional Certificate.

The Applied AI Professional Certification Program is a four-week professional learning initiative focused on the engineering of AI agent systems.
