Telugu Student Wins Second Prize at U.S. National Innovation Competition

Tampa, Florida, USA: Telugu student Ishanvi Sabniveesu, a 10th-grade student at Steinbrenner High School, Florida, has achieved remarkable success at the prestigious Invention Convention U.S. Nationals, one of the largest innovation competitions in the United States. Competing against more than 300,000 students from 35 states, Ishanvi secured the Second Prize for her groundbreaking innovation, an AI-Enabled Smart Cane designed to help visually impaired individuals navigate independently and safely. The project, which is currently in the patent application stage, began its journey at regional competitions hosted by the University of South Florida and ultimately earned national recognition for its innovative approach and social impact.

Key Features of the AI-Powered Smart Cane The Smart Cane incorporates advanced artificial intelligence technologies, including: Real-time AI-powered environmental analysis On-device Large Language Model (LLM) processing Voice-guided navigation through Bluetooth earpieces Fully offline functionality without internet dependency Advanced obstacle detection system False detection suppression technology for improved accuracy One-touch emergency calling feature Designed to be effective even in rural and remote areas, the Smart Cane aims to enhance mobility, independence, and safety for people with visual impairments. Beyond this innovation, Ishanvi has also founded Chronic Connect, a non-profit community initiative dedicated to supporting individuals living with chronic illnesses.
