Davanagere-Harihar Authority plans 200-acre layout for poor, middle-class families

Davanagere: The Davanagere-Harihar Urban Development Authority (DHUDА) has decided to develop a new residential layout to provide sites to poor and middle-class families who do not own houses or plots.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by district in-charge Minister S.S. Mallikarjun on Saturday. The meeting also approved the auction of remaining sites in the J.H. Patel Layout.Officials were directed to prepare proposals for expanding the new layout to 200 acres and submit them to the government at the earliest for approval. The minister said priority should be given to economically weaker and middle-class sections while developing the new residential area.

Speaking after the meeting, Mallikarjun said the authority was considering developing a layout at Karur in Davanagere. The proposed 200-acre development would primarily benefit families who have been unable to afford residential sites, he said.

The minister also responded to the ongoing war of words between BJP MLA B.P. Harish and him over the release of water to farmers. Mallikarjun accused the MLA of misleading farmers and said the issue should be discussed factually in the appropriate meetings.

Reacting to BJP protests, the minister rejected allegations that he had spoken harshly to farmers. He said elected representatives should bring farmers together and work towards resolving their concerns instead of making political accusations.
