No heavy rain warning for south Bengal, north to see more showers till Monday

Kolkata: The intensity of rainfall has eased across south Bengal, and there is no warning of heavy rain in the region, including Kolkata, over the next few days. However, several north Bengal districts are likely to continue receiving moderate to heavy rainfall until Monday, the Meteorological Department said on Saturday.

According to the Met Office, a low-pressure system remains active, while the southwest monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan to Manipur through north Bengal, influencing weather conditions across the state.

Under its influence, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in several parts of south Bengal over the coming days. Murshidabad is likely to receive heavy rainfall within the next 24 hours.

Rain activity is expected to be more pronounced in north Bengal, with heavy rainfall forecast in Malda, South Dinajpur and Jalpaiguri districts during the next 24 hours. Thunderstorms and intermittent rain are also likely to persist across other north Bengal districts until Monday.

Kolkata, which experienced continuous rain over the past three days leading to waterlogging in several areas, witnessed a respite on Friday as rainfall remained largely absent, allowing inundated stretches to drain. The Met Office said there is no possibility of heavy rain in the city over the next three to four days, though isolated spells of light to moderate rain may occur. No warning has been issued for fishermen along the south Bengal coast during the next 24 hours.

On Friday, Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 31.08 degrees Celsius, marginally below normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 25.09 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity ranged between 67 per cent and 98 per cent. The sky is expected to remain cloudy on Saturday, with temperatures hovering around 32 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius.
