Mumbai: The Mumbai police have denied permission to Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil to sit on an indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan from September 19.

Azad Maidan Police turned down his request on Sunday, just a day after he announced plans to march into Mumbai and camp there until the government met his demands on Maratha reservation.

The rejection lands squarely in the middle of Ganeshotsav, and that timing appears to be at the heart of the decision.
