Mumbai Police Seeks Verification Of Actor Zayn Khan’s OCI Status Over SIR Protest
In Short
The Mumbai Police has approached the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to verify actor Zayn Marie Khan’s Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status following her participation in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 10.

Mumbai Police Seeks Verification Of Actor Zayn Khan’s OCI Status Over SIR Protest
The development comes days after actor Imran Khan apologised to the Bombay High Court for taking part in the demonstration and gave an undertaking that he would not participate in any protest in the future.
An FIR was registered against Zayn, a US citizen, for participating in the protest alongside Imran. The demonstration was organised by Tushar Gandhi's organisation, Hum Bharat Ke Log. Both actors were detained by the police at the protest site.
Police Writes To FRRO Over OCI Status
Following the incident, the Mumbai Police's South Region wrote to the FRRO, requesting verification of the OCI status of both actors.
A police officer said the authorities informed the FRRO that an FIR had been registered against Zayn and sought a review of her OCI status.
According to the police, Zayn was born in Mumbai but holds an OCI card as a US citizen. The FRRO subsequently examined the status of both Imran and Zayn.
Earlier, on October 14, the FRRO had issued a Leave India Notice to Imran Khan. Two days later, the Mumbai Police wrote to the office regarding Zayn's OCI status.
Bombay High Court Orders Imran Khan To Apologise
On November 2, the Bombay High Court directed Imran Khan to submit an unconditional apology for participating in the protest. The court observed that OCI cardholders do not have the right to participate in demonstrations.
Following the court's direction, Imran submitted an apology and undertook not to take part in any such protest in the future.
Meanwhile, Imran's lawyer told The Indian Express that Zayn had not received any notice from the FRRO so far.
