24,057 Vijayawada families to get house ownership rights

Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will distribute regularisation pattas to 24,057 families in Vijayawada on September 30, providing full ownership rights over houses built on NTR-era house sites issued decades ago.

The distribution, under the Pedalaku Pattabhishekam programme, is expected to bring a permanent resolution to a long-pending house-site issue in Vijayawada. The regularisation will cover 617 acres, or 29.86 lakh square yards. The government has estimated the value of the land being regularised at about Rs 9,800 crore, while its market value is put at around Rs 24,297 crore.

Each beneficiary family is estimated to gain an asset worth about Rs 40-45 lakh. The pattas will cover beneficiaries across eight Assembly constituencies and 15 mandals in NTR and Krishna districts. Vijayawada East accounts for the largest number of beneficiaries at 7,990, followed by Vijayawada West (7,465) and Vijayawada Central (5,815). The other beneficiaries are from Jaggayyapeta (1,135), Mylavaram (981), Gannavaram (602), Nandigama (54) and Tiruvuru (15).

A significant number of beneficiaries live in houses constructed on hill areas in the three Vijayawada city constituencies. Residents of these settlements have sought legal recognition for decades, saying ownership rights would provide security to their homes and property. The beneficiaries include 12,093 BC families, 6,130 OC families, 4,546 SC families, 955 Muslim BC families and 333 ST families.
