CM Naidu calls for continuous skill training of govt staff

Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has called for continuous skill development of government employees, directing officials to expand training programmes in collaboration with premier institutions such as the IITs and IIMs.

Naidu made the direction during a review meeting with senior officials at his camp office on Wednesday on the services being delivered by various government departments.

Skill development, Anna Canteens, drinking water supply in urban areas and amenities in welfare hostels were among the issues discussed. The Chief Minister said Andhra Pradesh was leading the southern states in capacity building and skill training for government employees.

He said employees were being trained through various courses on the iGOT Karmayogi platform to equip them to function effectively in real-time work environments.

He asked employees to make use of virtual courses to continuously upgrade their skills. Skill development should not be viewed as a one-time exercise, he said, pointing out that IAS officers regularly undergo orientation and training to update their knowledge and capabilities.

Naidu directed officials to develop similar opportunities for other government employees and explore partnerships with IITs and IIMs for specialised training programmes.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the drinking water situation in urban areas and directed officials to ensure that shortages did not occur in either urban or rural areas.

Officials informed him that the drinking water situation in towns and cities had improved considerably following the recent rains. However, minor shortages were still being reported in two municipalities in the Rayalaseema region, where remedial measures were under way. The officials also reported that groundwater levels in Visakhapatnam city had improved following recharge and that the drinking water situation was being addressed.
