A 45-year-old cab driver in Bengaluru, accused of killing his wife and six in-laws, has been arrested. The police is looking for the bodies found at various other sites.

The suspect, who was identified as Indushekhar, is charged with the killings on Wednesday and disposing of the bodies at different locations including Nandi Hills in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur district.

Police have recovered the body of a child, who was among the victims. Search operations are underway to locate the remaining bodies.

Police said that all the murders were committed in a residential building in 59th Cross, near Basroom Circle, under Rajajinagar police station.

Investigators said Indushekhar allegedly first killed his wife, Sunita, using a grinding stone. He then wrapped her body in cloth and dumped it near Nandi Hills.

He supposedly deceived neighbours by turning off her cell phone and saying she had gone on a trip so he wouldn't be suspicious.

He is then believed to have murdered his mother-in-law, two brothers-in-law, their wives and his seven-year old nephew.

Police were led to believe that several people were murdered after receiving multiple reports of a missing person.

The case came to light after the mother of one of the accused's sisters-in-law filed a missing-person complaint at Srirampura police station on Thursday.

In the course of the investigation police came upon the alleged multiple killings and arrested Indushekhar.

The investigation in the matter is in progress with a team of two assistant commissioners of police, four inspectors and around 50 personnel, said North Division deputy commisioner of police B S Nema Gowda.

"The accused has thrown the bodies at different locations. We are searching for the bodies," the officer said.

Police say that chemicals used to clean house

The investigators believe that the accused used chemicals to clean the house and remove blood stains after the killings.

The police have arrested the driver of the vehicle in which the bodies were transported and the grinding stone that they believe was used in the slayings.

An investigation is continuing to determine circumstances and motive in the killings.
