BJP attacks govt over six cases against DJ operators during Ganeshotsava
Hubballi: The BJP has criticised the Karnataka government after police registered six cases against DJ owners and operators for allegedly violating noise pollution norms during Ganesh idol processions in Hubballi and Dharwad.
Cases have been registered in areas including Hubballi APMC, Dharwad’s Vidyagiri and Hubballi city. Six DJ owners and operators have been booked in connection with the alleged use of sound systems beyond permissible limits during the processions. The police action has triggered a political controversy, with BJP leaders questioning whether noise pollution rules were being enforced uniformly across communities. Assembly Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka questioned why similar action was not being taken against loudspeakers used for azaan at mosques.
“They register cases against DJ owners, but do not register cases against those using loudspeakers for azaan. Have they ever issued notices to mosques? This is the reason why the Congress has lost support in several places, and the same thing will happen in Karnataka,” Ashoka said.
He also questioned restrictions allegedly imposed on Hindu processions near mosques. “They tell us not to go in front of mosques. But have they told Muslim processions not to pass in front of Hindu temples?” he asked. Legislative Council Leader of Opposition Chalavadi Narayanaswamy also attacked the government over the cases. “If cases are filed against those using DJs during Ganesh processions, what is this approach? Tomorrow, they may even register cases against people who install Ganapati idols,” Narayanaswamy said.
