Karnataka should emerge as an end-to-end electronics hub: Patil

Bengaluru: Karnataka should emerge as a major global destination for the electronics sector. Our goal is to ensure that the entire electronics value chain from design, manufacturing and testing to exports is carried out within the State. The Government will extend all necessary support towards this, Minister for Large and Medium Industries MB Patil said on Wednesday. He was speaking at the Karnataka Electronics Leadership Summit organised at the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre on Tumakuru Road here. The electronics sector has become an integral part of every aspect of modern life. Karnataka has more than 20,000 chip designers and over 10,000 analogue engineers. Several major companies, including Foxconn, Wistron, AT&S, Applied Materials, Centum, Kaynes, Tata Electronics, Texas Instruments and Delta Electronics, have already established a presence in the State. Considering the long-term benefits, Bengaluru, Mysuru and Hubballi-Dharwad are being developed as electronics industry clusters, he explained.

The State is home to more than 100 companies engaged in chip design and accounts for 55 per cent of the country’s IoT (Internet of Things) startups. It is a major advantage that the State’s industrial ecosystem brings together software, hardware engineering, testing, manufacturing, industrial technology and startup innovation, he said.

Karnataka accounts for 40 per cent of the country’s electronic design activity and 10 per cent of its electronics manufacturing output. Patil assured that the Government would extend full support to MSMEs, startups, investors and industry partners working to expand electronics manufacturing, component production and semiconductor supply chains. After the summit, the Minister visited the exhibition, interacted with representatives of participating organisations and learnt about their products.
