Pratap Simha booked over alleged provocative speech
Mysuru: An FIR has been registered against former MP Pratap Simha and several others over an alleged provocative speech and disruption of public order during a Ganesh Shobha Yatra in T Narasipura on Friday. Police registered a suo motu case and began an inquiry under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The FIR cites Sections 132, 191, 194, 196(1)(a)(b), 299, 353(1)(b)(c) and 190. The allegations include obstructing public servants and police from performing their duties, promoting hatred or ill will among groups and castes, insulting religious beliefs, making provocative statements and disturbing public order.
The dispute followed instructions by T Narasipura Inspector Dhananjay regarding the installation of a Ganesha idol. Workers of the Hindu Mahasabha and Hindu Jagarana Vedike, led by Simha, subsequently took out the procession.
During the yatra, Simha reportedly stopped the idol in front of a mosque and criticised the police action. He allegedly made remarks against Inspector Dhananjay, including calling him “unworthy Dhananjay”, and warned that accounts would be settled if his side came to power in the next one-and-a-half years.
Mysuru district Congress reportedly complained to senior police officials over the remarks, following which the case was registered.
Leader of the Opposition R Ashok defended Simha, saying he already faces 25 cases and would not be deterred by another.
