Three killed in road accident near anekadu on Kushalnagar-Madikeri highway

Madikeri : Three people were killed and four others seriously injured in a road accident near Anekadu on the Kushalnagar-Madikeri highway in Kodagu district.

The accident occurred when a Swift car travelling from Kushalnagar towards Madikeri reportedly hit a motorcycle while attempting to overtake it. The car then went out of control and crashed into a pickup vehicle, resulting in multiple casualties.

Among those killed were Swift car driver Rathan alias Unni and Kumar, a watchman attached to the Madikeri Forest Department. The identity of the third deceased was yet to be confirmed.

According to preliminary information, those travelling in the Swift car had attended a Ganesh idol immersion programme at Guddehosur and were returning when the accident occurred.

Four persons travelling in the car — Suvin, Adarsh, Chandrashekar and Ajay — sustained serious injuries in the collision. They were initially shifted to the government hospital and a private hospital in Kushalnagar.

Some of the injured were later referred to hospitals in Madikeri and Mysuru for further treatment, depending on the severity of their injuries.

The impact of the collision left the vehicles badly damaged and triggered a rescue operation by local people and the police. The exact circumstances leading to the accident are being investigated.

On receiving information about the crash, Kushalnagar police reached the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection. Police are collecting details regarding the deceased, injured persons and the sequence of events that led to the collision.

Officials are also expected to examine whether excessive speed and the attempted overtaking manoeuvre contributed to the accident.

A case is likely to be registered based on the findings of the investigation. Further details regarding the condition of the injured and the identity of the third deceased are awaited.
