Bengaluru: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the BEML manufacturing plant in Bengaluru on Monday to assess the progress of the B28 bullet train production. He reviewed the assembly process and inspected various components being manufactured for the country’s high-speed rail project.

The minister examined the production of the underframe, sidewalls, roof structures and bogies, apart from the surface preparation and finishing processes. Officials briefed him on the different manufacturing stages and the functioning of the units involved in assembling the train.Vaishnaw also inspected passenger seats, couplers and the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system. The performance and integration of other equipment and components were reviewed during the visit. He sought details about the production of side and roof modules as well.

The B28 train is being developed for operation on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, which stretches 508 km.

The train will have eight coaches and measure 202 metres in length. It is designed to accommodate 557 passengers.

According to the specifications outlined for the train, it will have a maximum speed capability of 280 kmph and an operational speed of 249 kmph.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is expected to be fully operational by December 2029. The Bengaluru facility’s role in manufacturing the train marks an important step in developing domestic capabilities for high-speed rail systems.

Vaishnaw’s inspection focused on the progress of production, the quality of components and the various systems that will be integrated into the bullet train before it enters service.
