Guntur: Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said the NDA’s sweeping victory in the local body elections reflected public confidence in the good governance and development initiatives of the TDP-led government.

Speaking at the TDP Central Office in Mangalagiri on Tuesday, he credited the victory to the collective leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Minister Nara Lokesh.

He highlighted welfare initiatives, including the revival of Anna Canteens, Rs 4,000 pensions, Thalliki Vandanam, Deepam and Annadata Sukhibhava schemes. He said the government had spent approximately Rs 1.5 lakh crore on welfare programmes.

He also reiterated the commitment to developing Amaravati as the sole capital, completing Polavaram, providing jobs through Mega DSC and ensuring balanced regional development.

Criticising the previous YSRCP government, Dr Pemmasani alleged that the 2021 local body elections were conducted through intimidation, false cases and threats, resulting in nearly 50,000 seats being declared unanimous.

In contrast, he said the recent elections from Srikakulam to Kuppam were conducted peacefully, with the NDA securing victory in over 90 per cent of contested seats. He dismissed YSRCP allegations against EVMs, calling them baseless.

He further highlighted renewed progress in Polavaram, railway infrastructure, airports and Jal Jeevan Mission. He said over 1,000 BSNL towers and the Rs 2,000-crore BharatNet project would strengthen rural digital connectivity across Andhra Pradesh.
