71 lakh voters cleared for final rolls in Telangana SIR
Hyderabad: Even as the last date for filing claims and objections ended on Wednesday, more than 71 lakh voters out of the 92 lakh voters who were served notices have been found eligible for inclusion in the final electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Telangana. According to official figures from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the Election Commission generated 92.88 lakh notices over logical discrepancies and non-mapping of electors and served 91.92 lakh notices to voters. Of these, more than 71.23 lakh voters, or around 80 per cent, have been cleared for inclusion in the final electoral rolls. The claims and objections period began on August 17 and ended on October 7. Authorities could not deliver around 95,500 notices due to reasons including voters having shifted addresses and other factors.
Officials said nearly 80 per cent of voters who received notices have already been included back in the electoral rolls. They expressed confidence that the majority of the remaining cases would also be resolved. Though the notice phase and disposal of claims and objections began on August 17, the process will continue until November 5. Officials said efforts were under way to dispose of the remaining notices within the stipulated period.
They expressed confidence that almost all eligible voters would be enrolled in the final electoral rolls, which are scheduled to be published on November 9.
