Hyderabad: FormerTPCC president and Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies N Uttam Kumar Reddy has urged Congress Ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs to give greater priority to party programmes and strengthen coordination between the government and the party organisation.

He called for greater recognition of grassroots Congress workers who endured hardships and remained committed to the party during the previous BRS regime. Their perseverance, sacrifices and sustained efforts had contributed significantly to the Congress party’s return to power in Telangana, he said, stressing that their services should not be forgotten.

Uttam was speaking at the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Day and Rajiv Sadbhavana Award presentation ceremony held at Charminar on Monday.

He said active participation by elected representatives in party programmes would boost the morale of grassroots workers and strengthen the organisation. He emphasised the need for closer coordination between the government and party leaders to ensure effective implementation of party initiatives.

Uttam said a “silent revolution” was underway across the country under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. He observed that people were looking for an alternative to the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that growing public participation in Congress activities reflected aspirations for political change.

He called upon party workers to stand firmly behind Rahul Gandhi in the fight against the BJP and work towards strengthening secularism, democracy and national unity.

Uttam also commended former PCC president V Hanumantha Rao and the Rajiv Sadbhavana Award Committee for organising the annual event since 1990. The programme commemorates the Sadbhavana Yatra undertaken by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to promote religious harmony and national integration.

He said he had regularly attended the event, irrespective of whether he held an official position, and recalled Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions to strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions and increasing women’s participation in local governance. He also highlighted the reduction of the voting age from 21 to 18, which expanded electoral participation among young people.

AICC secretary in charge of Telangana affairs Sachin M Sawant expressed concern over growing divisions in society along caste and religious lines. He said such divisions weakened the nation and called for upholding the values of love, harmony and national unity.

He urged Congress workers to support Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to counter hatred and promote social cohesion.

On the occasion, Dr C Mallikarjuna, founder, managing director and chief consultant urologist at Hyderabad’s Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology, was presented with the Rajiv Sadbhavana Award in recognition of his distinguished service to society.

TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, former PCC president V Hanumantha Rao, former minister Geetha Reddy, MP Anil Kumar Yadav, senior leaders Anjan Kumar Yadav and Feroz Khan, along with other Congress leaders, party functionaries and members of the Rajiv Sadbhavana Award Committee, attended the event.
