Hyderabad: The monsoon session of the Telangana Assembly and Legislative Council may be held for only five days, from September 7 to 11.

According to sources, Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy and Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Dr Banda Prakash are likely to attend the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, from September 13 to 19.

In view of their proposed participation, the monsoon session is likely to conclude by September 11. The Speaker, Chairman and Deputy Chairman would have to leave for Cape Town on September 12 to attend the conference.

However, the Houses could function for more days if the Speaker, Chairman and Deputy Chairman cancel their proposed visit to Cape Town.

According to sources, the Assembly session is also likely to end on September 11 or earlier as the police machinery would have to gear up for the Ganesh festival, which begins on September 14. The duration of the monsoon session is expected to be finalised at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting chaired by the Speaker on the first day of the session.
