BRS trying hard to get back its mojo to reconnect with people

Hyderabad: The main opposition party Bharat Rashtra Samithi has tried hard to connect with people, taking every opportunity to target the Congress government during the past 1,000 days, so much so that party leaders are saying that their office, Telangana Bhavan, has become a ‘Janata Garage’.

The biggest allegation against the main opposition party in the state was that it had lost connect with people, resulting in loss of power. The party’s performance was bad in the Assembly and more so in the Lok Sabha elections, in which it could not win a single seat in the state.

Party leaders said that the realisation came after the Lok Sabha elections when the party took up reviews in which party workers pointed out that they were ignored when the party was in power. This made party’s working president KT Rama Rao say that he could not focus on the party workers while in power but now he would take the responsibility for looking after every party activist in the state. “Our working president has come to the rescue of party workers in distress. The party leadership treats its workers as assets and whenever they are in problems, top leaders are coming to the rescue,” said a senior leader in the party.

The party leaders said that the BRS had given enough time for the Congress government time to implement the pre-poll promises. Once the time --initial time of 100 days -- was over, the party started targeting the ruling party, the BRS leader added, citing instances like Lagacharla tribals, protests programs on Palamur Rangareddy Lift Irrigation, fee reimbursement, people affected because of HYDRAA, issues of people living near the banks of Musi River, on government policies including the HILT policy etc. The party senior leaders KTR and Harish Rao spearheaded the protest programs.

The party provided legal aid to the people who had lost their houses in the Musi, Lagacherla, Khammam etc. Now the party is taking up a series of protests for one week against the 1,000 days’ rule of the Congress.

MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar said that the BRS had been active in raising people’s voice during the past 1,000 days. He said that right after the completion of three and half months, BRS started questioning non-fulfilment of promises. “Government failures have been successfully exposed both on the floor of the Assembly and outside.

The job of the Opposition is to question the ruling party and the Telangana Bhavan has become a ‘Janata garage’ where people from all walks of life came requesting the party to take up their issues, which in itself is success.
