Aurelia murder: Family, residents seek swift justice
HYDERABAD: With folded hands, Milton Fernandes Moses, 44, a research scientist at SEEDWORKS International Limited, his wife Daisy and their son on Monday appealed to Malkajgiri police to take immediate action against sacked security guard Vikram Kumar for allegedly kidnapping and murdering their five-year-old daughter, Aurelia, alias Monu, at Villa Orchids gated community.
Residents of Villa Orchids and the girl’s family members staged a sit-in at the Malkajgiri DCP office, demanding immediate justice. Some residents, particularly women, expressed fear about living in gated communities after the incident.
Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B Sumathi met the protesters and assured them that the police would submit a representation to the court seeking a speedy trial. She said a police team would assist in filing the charge sheet to facilitate the trial and ensure stringent action against the accused.
Sumathi said Vikram Kumar, a native of Bihar’s Nalanda district, was dismissed from service at Villa Orchids in September. Allegedly seeking revenge, he colluded with other security guards, kidnapped Aurelia, strangled her and dumped her body in a water sump.
Police examined around 130 CCTV cameras, detained 11 persons for questioning and arrested Vikram within 24 hours of the crime, she said.
The Commissioner urged residential communities to get the details of domestic workers, drivers, security guards and watchmen verified and registered under the ‘Mee Suraksha’ programme. She also called for installing and maintaining CCTV cameras under ‘Nenu Saitham 2.0’ and cooperating with police to prevent crime.
