Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka visited the India Energy & Climate Center (IECC) at the University of California, Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy, and held discussions on India’s renewable energy commitments and Telangana’s clean energy transition.
The discussions focused on India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, energy security and the opportunities emerging from declining clean technology costs. Participants examined practical pathways involving policy design, grid modernisation, energy storage, industrial decarbonisation and equitable transition strategies.
The delegation highlighted Telangana’s efforts to expand renewable energy capacity through its Green Power Policy, attract investments in green power projects and promote solar and other renewable sources.
Innovative initiatives, including women self-help group-led solar programmes and farmer-centric schemes under PM-KUSUM, were also discussed.
The State’s focus on ensuring reliable 24x7 power supply, promoting clean energy equipment manufacturing and integrating renewable energy with industrial growth was highlighted as a distinctive model in India’s energy transition.
