BJP leaders demand foolproof arrangements for Ganesh immersion

Hyderabad: Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, alongside State BJP Chief N Ramachander Rao, strongly condemned the police arrest of office bearers and members of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti demanding enhanced arrangements for Ganesh immersion in Hyderabad on September 25.

Kishan Reddy stated that the state government should resolve immersion issues through dialogue rather than suppressing protests with arrests, highlighting BGUS’s 47-year legacy in organising the festival smoothly. With around 1,40,000 idols installed across the city, he urged immediate talks to deploy necessary cranes, manage traffic, and maintain public order while respecting religious sentiments.

Bandi Sanjay Kumar termed banning immersion on Tank Bund cruel, calling for the unconditional release of all detained BGUS members, including general secretary Dr R Shashidar. Echoing similar views, N Ramachander Rao affirmed that devotees have traditionally revered Hussain Sagar as Vinayaka Sagar, opposing attempts to divert major immersions, including the 70-foot Khairatabad and 73-foot Kothapet idols, to backwaters.

He assured that heavy machinery and prompt sanitation drives would prevent environmental harm, demanding full permission and infrastructure on a war footing.

Meanwhile, in Karimnagar, high tension prevailed near Chintakunta canal as police detained BJP leaders Akula Rajender, Sunil Rao, Saini Mallesham, and Boinipalli Praveen Rao during protests demanding water release for local immersions. Condemning the police lathicharge, Sunil Rao accused Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy of neglecting regional requirements while diverting water elsewhere. However, the BJP withdrew its agitation after the state government agreed to release 500 cusecs of water from SRSP for immersion, with officials promising an additional 3,000 cusecs to reach the canal by Tuesday night.
